Our Purpose
Why we built this tool
Total Parenteral Nutrition calculations carry high clinical stakes. Errors in macronutrient ratios, caloric targets, or electrolyte additions can directly harm patients. We built TPN Calculator because we have personally worked through these calculations at hospital bedsides and in clinical pharmacy practice — and we know exactly where mistakes happen. Every formula in this tool is grounded in evidence-based guidelines and validated against the same references used in teaching hospitals.

Dr. Saba Saeed
Pharm.D, M.Phil. Pharmaceutics · Co-Founder & Lead Author
Dr. Saba Saeed is a pharmaceutical scientist and registered pharmacist with an M.Phil. in Pharmaceutics (with Distinction) and a Pharm.D, both from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan — where she graduated in the top 1% of her class. She currently serves as a Research Technician at BZU, working under the supervision of Dr. Sohail Muhammad Arshad on insulin-loaded microneedles, polymeric drug release systems, and advanced parenteral drug delivery technologies.
Her M.Phil. research focused specifically on mucoadhesive buccal patches for drugs with narrow therapeutic indices — the same class of compounds frequently managed through parenteral nutrition regimens. As Head Pharmacist at Sahiwal Community Hospital and a former Clinical Pharmacist at Noreen Nishat Welfare Hospital, Dr. Saba has hands-on experience monitoring anticoagulation therapy, adjusting antibiotic dosages, and educating patients on complex medication regimens including IV nutrition support. She also served as a Remote Assistant Professor at Allied College of Health Sciences, Khanewal, where she guided undergraduate pharmacy theses and research projects.
Dr. Saba’s research has been conducted under government-funded scholarships awarded on the basis of exceptional academic performance, and her laboratory experience spans biochemical assays, spectroscopic techniques, polymer extraction, and drug release modeling — all directly relevant to the pharmacokinetic principles underlying TPN formulation.
Dr. Nosheen Khalid

Dr. Nosheen Khalid is a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) with an exceptional breadth of clinical experience spanning two of Pakistan’s most prominent medical institutions. She served as Head Pharmacist at Nishtar Hospital Multan — one of the largest public sector teaching hospitals in the country — and subsequently at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Multan, where she oversaw pharmacy operations and clinical medication management at an institutional level.
Beyond hospital practice, Dr. Nosheen has worked as a certified Diabetes Educator with Novo Nordisk, the global pharmaceutical leader in diabetes care. In this role, she delivered structured patient education on insulin therapy, glycaemic monitoring, and metabolic management — expertise that maps directly onto the nutritional and metabolic calculations at the heart of TPN therapy, where glucose control and insulin requirements are critical clinical variables.
Her combination of large-scale hospital pharmacy leadership, military-standard clinical protocols, and specialist metabolic education gives TPN Calculator a uniquely authoritative clinical foundation. Our Process
How we develop and validate content
Every calculator, article, and clinical reference published on this platform goes through a structured review process before it is made available to users.
Primary source review
We begin with the original clinical guidelines from ASPEN (American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition), ESPEN (European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism), and peer-reviewed pharmacy literature. We do not rely on secondary aggregators.
Formula implementation by the clinical team
Calculation logic is implemented directly by our pharmacist authors — not outsourced to general developers. Both authors verify each formula against textbook references and hospital formulary standards.
Cross-validation with clinical cases
Outputs are tested against known clinical case studies and standard teaching examples drawn from pharmacy curricula and hospital training materials to confirm accuracy before publication.
Peer review between authors
Dr. Saba Saeed and Dr. Nosheen Khalid independently review each other’s contributions. Discrepancies are resolved by returning to primary literature, not by default to either author’s initial position.
Version tracking and update policy
When guidelines are updated by ASPEN or ESPEN, we update the tool. Significant changes are communicated transparently with a note on the relevant page indicating the date of update and the nature of the change.
